Located approximately 12 miles south of Kansas City, Lenexa offers established neighborhoods, beautiful parks and quality infrastructure. With a 20% population growth in the past 20 years, Lenexa has involved all its citizens in planning for the future: Vision 2030 is a strategic visioning effort that brings all parts of the community together to exchange ideas and issues that will guide the city’s future growth.
Called the City of Festivals, Lenexa draws visitors from the metroplex and beyond with events such as the Annual Great Lenexa Barbeque Battle, Lenexa Community Days and Spinach Fest. Additionally, the Lenexa Parks and Recreation Department manages nearly 700 acres of park land with 41 parks, green spaces and recreation facilities.
Lenexa is served by Shawnee Mission, Olathe and DeSoto School Districts. Shawnee Mission produced 12 National Merit Finalists in 2012 and its students were offered more than $54 million in scholarships in 2011. Olathe Public Schools received a composite ACT average of 23.6, produced 12 National Merit Finalists in 2011 and was one of the two finalists for National Middle School of the Year. DeSoto USD is second in the county in math, and received reading and math scores 10.1% and 1.4% higher than the state average in 2012.
